Why You Need to Visit Brooklyn This Holiday Season and The Perfect Gifting Necklace
There is something so special about taking a day trip into NYC during the holiday season. I grew up going into the city over the holidays to shop, watch the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall and to just marvel at the tree in Rockefeller center. I still love to do these traditional NYC holiday activities but when it comes to New York one thing I never though to do was to head into Brooklyn for the day. Having a two year old with a fairly inflexible nap schedule makes a day trip to the big apple often feel like more trouble than its worth. The thought of taking trains, subways, finding Ubers with car seats and navigating it all while managing Ayla’s “tornado time” (a term I have affectionately coined for her when she is super overtired) just feels overwhelming. What I love about Brooklyn is how accessible it is. Parking is always cheaper and easier to come by and driving into Brooklyn is far more manageable than navigating the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.
I had been feeling a pull toward having a holiday adventure with Ayla since the season started so we decided to head into Brooklyn and met up with a good friend of mine for some fun Christmas shopping. It was so easy to drive into the city (never thought I’d say that!). We parked in a garage and walked a few blocks to City Point Brooklyn to do some shopping at some of the amazing stores there. They have a huge Century 21 department store, which I had never been in before. The prices were crazy! Everything was so incredibly affordable and they had a huge selection. I was also introduced to Flying Tiger Copenhagen which I instantly fell in love with. There were so many unique and affordable stocking stuffers. The basement is home to DeKalb Market hall which has global cuisine from over 40 vendors! They had lights strung from the ceiling and beautiful art murals everywhere. It had such great vibe and I am pretty sure I had the best french fries of my life there.
Right now they have teamed up with RxArt and have a beautiful Christmas candy mural up that was done by Will Cotton. Ayla LOVED it and kept pretending she was eating the candy canes off of the mural. They have some great Christmas programs going on right now and I know that Santa stops by for a visit over the weekends. If you are looking for some great art, delicious food and affordable shopping then City Point is definitely a great place to spend a day. After a fun day of Christmas shopping we headed back to CT and Ayla napped the whole way back in her car seat. Taking a trip into NYC has never been so seamless. Brooklyn is officially at the top of my list for places to hang out in the city!
Ok, now to talk about jewelry. Christmas is the time of year when you want to buy someone something extra special. I have received a few pieces of jewelry that I have been wearing almost daily for years on end. These always end up being versatile pieces that are easy to wear, are high quality and add a lot of class to an outfit. This necklace from Lagos Jewelry definitely falls into all of those category's. It's silver with tiny 14k gold accent pieces, making it perfect for pairing with silver or gold. It can be adjusted to 16' or 18' making it easy to layer it with other pieces or wear it alone. It's such a classy piece that you can wear casually or dressed up. I have paired this necklace with my diamond pendant for fancy occasions or with layers of other silver and gold necklaces for a casual look. It really gives that simple touch of elegance when you wear it alone as well. If your looking for a special gift for someone this Christmas it's a great necklace to buy. Lagos has such a wide variety of beautiful jewelry to choose from so they are definitely work checking out this gift giving season!
