3 Tips for Wearing Velvet This Holiday Season
You may have noticed that velvet is taking over the holiday scene this winter. You can find velvet in everything from floor length gowns to cute tops and everything in between. I would even bet my money on the fact that velvet has taken the place of corduroy for the winter months this year. You may be wanting to try out this fun trend, but if your not really sure where to start, here are a few tips on how you can wear velvet like a pro this holiday season:
1. Play with texture- Velvet has such a soft and luxurious feel so introducing a material that is very different texturally can add a lot to the look to make it stand out. Think about adding pieces with materials like leather, jean or wool to your look. Think velvet tank top with a jean skirt or a velvet dress with a leather jacket like I am wearing above.
2. Color is key- Velvet can be a lot to handle if your not used to taking more daring fashion risks. If your feeling a little nervous about the material choose something with a darker color like navy, black or burgundy. It will have a rich and more subtle holiday feel compared to a silver or pink which will stand out a lot more. If your looking to get noticed then go all in for a bright or metallic feel with gold, silver or holiday candy apple red.
3. Balance it with something casual- Because velvet can really give the feel of luxury it can be fun to play around with adding casual elements. Think a floor length velvet maxi with a jean jacket or velvet pants with sneakers and a sweatshirt. You could even just add a wool beanie, like I did in the photos above, to tone down the look a bit for everyday wear.
