5 Ways to Prevent Diaper Rash During Teething
There are few things in life cuter than a baby smiling at you with those first little pearly whites! As cute as those first teeth might be , any parent can tell you it is not a fun journey to get there. The sore gums, irritability, runny nose and low grade fever throw many parents into a frantic dance of troubleshooting ways to bring their little one some needed comfort. What a lot of first time parents don’t know is that for more babies than not, teething can also cause mild to severe diaper rash.
My first daughter never had sensitive skin or suffered from rashes so I was shocked when at 6 months she broke out in a bad diaper rash. It took me the longest time to realize that it was because she had started teething. Our second baby girl had sensitive skin from day one so I knew I needed to be prepared for teething. We were no strangers to diaper rash from the beginning and way before those little teeth started coming in we had already tried just about every diaper rash cream out there. We had finally found relief with Triple Paste so I knew to have it on hand to be ready for those pearly whites.
Just like clockwork, right at 6 months I noticed the first signs of teething. I knew the diaper rash would not be far off. After doing some research on how to prevent diaper rash during teething and having my tried and true Triple Paste on hand I was determined not to re-live our early months of severe diaper rash again. Cosette did get a bit of minor diaper rash during teething despite my efforts but it was so minimal compared to the severe rash she was so prone to as a baby and I am confident that it’s because of the steps I took to minimize her chances of diaper rash. I wanted to share the 5 steps we took to prevent diaper rash so that when teething starts you can also be prepared!
Start using Triple Paste at the first signs of teething- Do not wait until the diaper rash appears! One of the best ways to prevent diaper rash is to use a barrier cream before the rash has a chance to form. After my daughter's severe diaper rash as a baby we tried more diaper rash creams and ointments than you can imagine and we very clearly saw the most effective relief from Triple Paste. I would encourage you to not waste time and money trying a ton of products and just grab Triple Paste because it honestly won’t let you down. Its safe and gentle enough for everyday use but is strong enough to calm even severe diaper rash.
Dry your baby completely before putting on Triple Paste- After a diaper change give your babes bum a minute to fully dry before applying your Triple Paste. This makes sure that there are no irritants being locked in on the skin.
Do not use diaper wipes with fragrance or alcohol in them- Fragrances and alcohols can be irritating and drying for a babies sensitive skin and may further aggravate an existing rash.
Change diapers as soon as they are wet – Moisture is not a friend of a diaper rash free bottom. During seasons when your baby is more prone to diaper rash make sure your changing wet diapers quickly to keep the area nice and dry.
Let your baby go “diaperless” when it’s possible/practical for short periods of time- Not only are naked baby butts adorable but going commando gives their little bottom a chance to air out. Moisture aggravates diaper rash so being diaper free for a bit can really help.
If your baby is approaching the 6 month mark I know these tips and tricks can go a long way to keep them as comfortable as possible. Teething is hard enough as it is.
