The Perfect Holiday Getaway At Chatham Wayside Inn
The holidays can get so chaotic and busy for us. One of the traditions I had grown to love before having kids was sneaking away with Justin to Cape Cod for our anniversary right before Thanksgiving every year. It was a way to slow down and gain some perspective before jumping into the fun but crazy holiday season. We lost this tradition after having kids, but as they are getting older, I have grown to realize just how important it is to plan a getaway for that needed perspective during the busiest season of the year. I am so excited to share one of my favorite places in the world with you, just in case you might also be looking for a charming holiday getaway.
For years, every November we would come to the Chatham Wayside Inn. I loved walking the quaint New England streets of Chatham, all lit up and decorated with garland and wreaths for the holidays. When we arrived this year for the first time since having kids I was so happy to find it was all just as I had remembered.
We settled into our beautiful, brightly lit room and walked outside to our private seating area with a beautiful golf course just beyond the hedges. I sat in my Adirondack chair and just breathed in the salt air to unwind and relax a bit. Then I unpacked and Justin and I enjoyed some chocolates and Champaign that the Inn had left for us upon our arrival. The rooms are always so clean, well lit and have such peaceful décor. It makes it easy to immediately start to feel relaxed.
After Justin and I enjoyed our champaign we headed out to do a bit of exploring and find a bite to eat. The Inn is nestled among the downtown shops making it the perfect central location to walk anywhere you want to go. It’s a great starting point for exploring everything the area has to offer. There are a ton of quaint little beach shops and boutiques to visit and amazing places to dine! We had a great time doing some shopping and I would highly recommend checking out the Impudent Oyster for some delicious sea food as well! It’s been a favorite of ours for years and was as good as I had remembered!
The next morning we headed to the lobby for the most amazing breakfast! I have no idea where they get their bagels and muffins but they are some of the best I have ever had in my life. They also had an impressive spread full of eggs, croissants, sausages, cereal and fruit. It’s one of the better breakfasts I have had at a hotel in my life and love that it’s all included with the stay.
After breakfast we walked around the town and did a bit more exploring. It ended up being a rainy day so we spent some time reading and relaxing in our room before heading to dinner at the Wild Goose Tavern to enjoy our anniversary dinner. We ordered some warm cider cocktails, perfect for a cozy meal around the holidays, and reminisced over 13 yrs of marriage. Justin ordered filet mignon and said it was one of the very best steaks he has ever had. I ordered scallops that were perfectly cooked and finished off the meal with crème brule and fried banana cheesecake. It was the perfect meal for our anniversary!
The next morning, we packed up and headed home feeling refreshed and ready to head into the holidays! We love Chatham any time of the year but if you are ever able to visit The Chatham Wayside Inn over the holiday season there is just something a little extra magical about it. I love the quieter streets and glow of the lights with all the Christmas décor. It truly is worth a trip if your able to get away for a quick weekend!
Happy Travels,
Kelly
