Charming Hotel near Bowdoin College in Brunswick ME!
Now that our girls are a little older Justin and I have been more intentional with scheduling weekends away together every few months. It’s been so much fun exploring little pockets of New England and Maine has become one of our favorite places to visit. We recently booked a stay at The Federal in Brunswick ME and had the best weekend adventure!
I was immediately enamored with the charm and stunning interior design of the hotel when we arrived. The Federal was recently renovated but the original inn, The Daniel and Captain Daniel Stone Inn, was originally constructed in 1810. The hotel feels modern (and is meticulously clean) but sill has those charming remnants of a building that holds over a century of history. It’s a short walk from the charming downtown full of restaurants, café’s and colorful small shops.
We quickly found there was a lot to do in the area. They have so much to enjoy like Botanical Gardens, Hiking trails, Beaches, public parks + reserves, Bowdoin College Museum of Art and a cute downtown to explore! On Saturday we woke up, had a great breakfast downtown and then headed to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. They have an impressive collection for a small school and we really enjoyed wandering around and taking in the inspirational art work.
After the museum we took a quick drive to nearby Orr’s island and strolled along The Giants Stairs. This little costal gem has breathtaking views and a dramatic rocky coastline. It was one of the most beautiful views I have seen in Maine and well worth the short drive. After enjoying the stunning landscape and charming costal cottages we headed back to The Federal for dinner at 555 North.
Our Dinner at 555 North was by far the highlight of our trip. It was one of the best meals Justin and I have had in our lives. Every dish they brought out was amazing and we felt almost incapable of having any conversation over dinner that was not centered around how unbelievable each course was. If you go, make sure you order the bread with chive butter, The Creamy 5 Onion Soup and the BLT salad as starters. I am not generally one to rave about bread, soup or salads but they were some of the most delicious dishes I have ever tasted.
If your looking for a great place to stay while visiting Bowdoin College or just looking for a fun weekend getaway in ME I would highly recommend staying at The Federal. We had an amazing stay full of adventure, relaxation, culture and amazing dining. It really was the exact recipe we needed for the perfect weekend away!
