7 Musts for Tackling Dust

7 Musts for Tackling Dust

There is nothing quite like a cozy home decorated perfectly for the Holidays! Our 100 year old New England home never looks quite so charming as after we have pulled out all the Christmas decorations and carefully set them up in our home. As sad as it is to pack them up after Christmas, my watery eyes are never related to having to package up our winter wonderland and return it to the basement. My family and I are no strangers to allergies and nothing seems to stir up the dust like packing up Christmas decor. Every year the after Christmas clean up ends up being a sure fire recipe for itchy skin and stuffy noses. After years of sneazing I have found a few tricks to help minimize our indoor allergies. I decided to partner with Filtrete™

Brand and Claritin to share with you 7 of the ways our family reduces and manages indoor allergens so we can enjoy time in our home without feeling trapped indoors!

 1. Get Room Air Purifier’s for your home- We recently got a Filtrete™ Brand Room Air Purifier from Walmart and let me tell you, these do wonders and are excellent for capturing

particles others can't including those pesky allergens in your air. The Filtrete™ Room Air Purifiers paired with Filtrete™ True Hepa Room Air Purifier Filters

capture 95% of airborne particles (as small as 0.3 microns)
so you're not breathing in all of that dust! If you put one in each room of your home it will be a total game changer for your dust allergies!

 2. Treat Symptoms with Claritin® - Sometimes, even when you “take all the steps” to reduce allergens you still have a bit of a snuffly nose sticking around. My husband and I have actually used Claritin® for years to manage allergies, both for ourselves and now for our kids. Children’s Claritin® Chewables 24-Hour, 5 mg, 30 Ct
has been perfect for Ayla. We love it because it’s non-drowsy and the #1 pediatrician recommended oral allergy brand. It’s effective for 24 hours and we use it year round for Ayla’s allergy relief. Justin and I use the Claritin® 24 Hour Non-Drowsy Allergy Relief Liqui-Gels, 10 mg, 30 Ct. It actually provides relief from symptoms caused by over 200 outdoor and indoor
allergens (Like those from pets, pollen, dust and mold). I have tried a few allergy medications, but Claritin® has always worked the best for me with relieving my sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat and water eyes. I believe it’s because Claritin® is an
antihistamine so it hinders the cascade triggered by allergens. We do what we can to prevent allergies but we always stock up at Walmart on our Claritin® so we have it ready for the season that our allergies still act up.

 3. Wash bedding, pillows and kids stuffed animals regularly- Few things collect dust like bedding and stuffed animals! We try and wash our bedding weekly and I usually run our girls washable stuffed animals through the wash monthly. We also try and keep the stuffed animals to a minimum and don’t keep many of them in the girls bedroom.

4.    Use Tea Tree Oil in Your Laundry- Did you know that dust mites can survive the wash? Adding a few drops of Tea Tree oil to your laundry when washing it will stop them in their tracks! It’s also a natural way to make you laundry smell amazing!

5.    Declutter- It’s amazing how much dust all of that junk on your counters, shelves and under your bed is collecting! Get in touch with your inner Marie Kondo and get rid of some of the extra clutter! It will go a long way to reduce the dust in your home!

6.    Clean from top to bottom- You always want to make sure you clean the higher areas first so the dust falls to the ground. When you vacuum or dust lower shelves last you wont be missing any of the dust that fell from higher up!

7.    Ditch your feather duster- Using a feather duster can actually stir up dust. It’s always better to use a wet rag that will pick up dust without allowing it to all fly up in the air.

I hope some of these tips and tricks can help you to have a happier and healthier Holiday season! If you’d liked you stock up on some Claritin® yourself or try out the Filtrete™ Room Air Purifier we love, you can find a coupon for them HERE to purchase from your local Walmart! Enjoy a sneeze free season and stay cozy!

Kelly
