An Outdoor Winter Date Night Without the Chill
Parent confession: I realize this may sound selfish but to be completely honest, one of the most challenging things for me about becoming a mom was the loss of freedom that comes with being a parent. Although it’s more than worth it, it was still an adjustment to not be able to leave the house after 7pm because of Ayla’s bedtime. If you are lucky enough to have family nearby or can afford a babysitter whenever you feel like going out then there is still a level of freedom you are able to maintain with kids. We, unfortunately, do not have either luxury so we have had to get a bit creative with our date nights.
One of the things we love to do in the summer is grill out on the back porch after Ayla is in bed. We would spend our evenings this past summer sitting in chairs on the deck, enjoying our beers and burgers, and just have the best time hanging out. Winter was threatening to kill our perfect like back yard date nights until I got an idea. For Christmas this year I wanted to treat Justin to the perfect backyard winter date. I decided to trade in our plastic chairs for a gorgeous patio set from Best Choice Products (because, well, its more than 50% off in December!) and I grabbed a fire pit to go with it. The fire adds so much ambiance and keeps us toasty and warm while we enjoy our little date. Occasional s’mores don’t hurt either ;).
I am sure that when the blizzards come even this will have to end, but for now we are loving our cozy little backyard winter wonderland. You may think were crazy for buying patio furniture in December but to be honest, I really don’t know why everyone doesn’t buy their patio furniture in the dead of winter.
